So Pokemon Go is finally launched and arrived here at Singapore and other countries as well, many of you if not most of you, must want to catch ’em all as soon as possible.
In case Pokemon Go is still not available in your country, do check here for the alternative. Similar to Pokemon Go and even more challenging and adventurous than Pokemon Go.
Here are the real life hacks you can do to catch ’em all:
Note: This real life hacks has nothing to do with the Pokemon Go game. The article won’t give you hacks to the game but instead real life hacks while you are playing the game. Some real life hacks may work only in Singapore 🙂
1. Use Tablet instead of Phone
This hack works world-wide and for tablet owner.
Don’t tell me you don’t know that tablet packs bigger battery than your phone. Yes, most tablet, by right and by design packs bigger battery than phone. That’s why, if you happen to own a tablet that is compatible with Pokemon Go (min iOS 8 / Android 4.4), then use it for your Pokemon hunting. Alternatively, if you happen to have old phone(s) that’s compatible with Pokemon Go, you can use it rather than use your main phone.
I used my Nexus 7 2013 tablet to go hunting Pokemon. It’s not officially supported for playing Pokemon Go, but with a little hack, I managed to install Pokemon Go at my Nexus 7. While at home I made sure to charge the tablet until 100%, then started to go out and playing. It lasted from noon until evening, until myself getting tired and exhausted.
2. Bring PowerBank
This hack works world-wide.
Pokemon Go = Battery drain. Full stop. Period.
No matter how big is your battery capacity, be it a phone or even a tablet, playing Pokemon Go continuously draining your device battery a lot. I mean it: a lot. It uses your GPS, your internet/data, and your camera (if you turned on AR mode).
So PowerBank is a must bring item if you are hunting the pocket monsters. Depends on how crazy you are with catching Pokemons, but a good and full charge 10000 mAH should be enough for a day.

3. Bring MiFi device/Mobile Wi-Fi Router/Pocket Wi-Fi/Internet Egg
This hack works world-wide.
Pokemon Go = Data drain.
If you are on post-paid plan, beware! Don’t overuse your data plan. Local telco (telecommunication operator) here charge $10 for every extra 1GB. Do not end-up with hundreds of dollar bill.
Whenever possible, especially if you are hunting together, bring with you the MiFi device. Put sim card with unlimited data plan on it or sim card with bigger and better data plan or just buy prepaid sim-card and subscribe for prepaid data plan, so you won’t exceed the quota and can limit your data usage. Check here for the cheapest prepaid data plan you can get in Singapore.
If you are like me, who still owned those unlimited data plan, use it. It’s max to 3G only, but Pokemon Go doesn’t really need that 4G speed. 3G is enough.
4. Get Public Transport Unlimited Journey Pass/Subway Pass/MRT & Bus Pass
This hack works in Singapore (Citizen and PR) and probably in other countries.
You want to meet and catch each and every Pokemon, then an unlimited public transport pass is definitely helping.
In Singapore, if you are Singapore Citizen or Permanent Resident (PR), you can apply for unlimited journey pass for taking MRT and busses, they call it Adult Monthly Travel Card. Price is either $80 (off-peak) and $120 (all time). Details here.
If you are tourist visiting Singapore, do check here to get the unlimited MRT and busses pass.
If you are staying in other countries, do check your local public transport, they may have similar unlimited pass.
Try not bring your own vehicle while hunting Pokemon, because 1) it will slows you down 2) you may make traffic jam by parking arbitrarily.
5. Bring Foods and Drink
This hack is for you.
You need to stay healthy and hydrated. That’s why, don’t forget to bring some foods/snacks with you and bring a bottle of water with you.
6. Bring Small Backpack with you
This hack is for you and should works world-wide.
You won’t be able to hold everything with both of your hands, especially while playing Pokemon. The game itself requires you to use both of your hands: one for holding your phone/tablet, the other one to throw the PokeBall.
Carrying a small backpack will definitely help. Put PowerBank, MiFi device, public transport pass, wallet and drink bottle to it.
And that’s about it. I will definitely keep updating the article in case I find another real-life hacks that can help in your Pokemon journey. Cheers!
