And that includes any in-app purchases done inside the apps or games.
The past few weeks to months, I’ve been reluctant but aware of what I thought back then as an error. The iTunes Link Maker, the tool I used to create apps and games custom download link so any download made to the apps and games, they are going to be tagged under my affiliate account, was stopped working. It didn’t generate the apps and games links with my affiliate ID – it was just generating plain URL, but since my intention was never to get earning from it, and plus what I normally share is FREE apps and games, so I didn’t really pay full attention to it.
That goes until today, knowing that the problem still persists – the apps and games links generated using iTunes Link Maker were without my affiliate ID, I became curious and googled here and there to find out the root cause. Only then I came to this page, official from Apple, telling that Apple has ceased the affiliate programme for its Mac and iOS apps and games.
Here’s the official wording from Apple.
Here’s the link to see the full message from Apple: here.
Do you think Apple should reconsider bringing back commissions for its Mac and iOS apps and games?
Including the in-app purchase made within the apps and games. Do you think so?
Well, for me personally while I have almost zero impact by this decision – since I was joining the programme mainly to get the metrics on how many people are actually looking at my blog, posts and download links given on each posts and any earning from it, I considered them as a bonus – but I do think Apple should reconsider bringing back affiliate commissions to its Mac and iOS apps and games, since one way it will surely help the app industry economy plus I need the metrics to know better my post reach to the audiences.
Here’s my Apple Affiliate Programme Report:
As you can see below on the report graph, from 2016 till now – 2019, there are 67 items I managed to share, where I got 11K over clicks – which is considered pretty good, however since most of the apps and games I shared are either FREE-ware or FREE-mium, thus as you can see there, I got $0 revenue.
