Apple first phablet: iPhone 6 Plus
iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus were the first two iPhone that have big screens. They were Apple first entry to the phablet market which at that time was lead and dominated by Samsung with their Galaxy Note series.
Both iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus were also symbol for Tim Cook’s Apple to break from its own tradition (read: Steve Jobs’ Apple) of having a phone that can be hold by just one hand. One of the reason why it took so long for Apple to come out with their own phablet is because Steve Jobs wouldn’t agree with the idea of having iPhone that is hard to hold with just one hand.
Alright, enough with the iPhone 6 stories. Now here are reasons why iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus don’t get upgrade to iOS 13.
These are the reason why Apple doesn’t give iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus upgrade to iOS 13
1) Ram size not enough
Apple raised the bar last year during introduction of iOS 12 to support and give iOS update up to 5-year old iPhone model. iPhone 5S which were introduced back in 2013 got iOS 12 update.
This year – 2019 – when Apple came out with iOS 13, Apple, unfortunately, lower the bar, supporting only up to 4-year old iPhone model, making iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus which were introduced back in 2014 to be left out in the cold.
It was due to the fact that iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus only have 1 GB of RAM, while likely iOS 13 requires at minimum 2 GB of RAM. Any iPhone introduced after iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus have at least 2 GB of RAM. Check here for the full list of iPhone with their RAM sizes.
2) Boost sales
Another reason is likely apple want to boost sales because – if you remember or even experienced yourself – when Apple introduced iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus back in 2014, there were so many people upgrading their phone to iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus. Not only iPhone users themselves, but Android users who want to test and try Apple first phablet – the iPhone 6 Plus.
By not giving iOS 13 update to iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus, Apple hopes that people who still own and use iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus will upgrade (read: buy) their iPhone to the latest one.
Are you one of them?
Are you one of the iPhone 6 or iPhone 6 Plus owner who disappointed with Apple decision not giving update to iOS 13? Do you plan to upgrade to the latest iPhone?
