Finally I can really play Overcooked!2 on the go from my smartphone.

I have personally tested running GeForce Now using my iPhone (running in browser) and running these games: Overcooked!2, Dauntless, Destiny 2 Beyond Light, Control, Enter the Gungeon. I got a pretty good FPS, considering I’m running them on iPhone and using the cheapest Home Broadband available (M1 $29.99 / month). When the connection are spotty (when I tested using 4G LTE connection), the game has noticeable lags. But overall, I’m pretty happy that finally I can play AAA PC game titles from anywhere (as long as I have internet connection).

Bring it all together

So who needs a thousand-dollar gaming rig when you can play AAA PC game titles for just $19.99 / month? Here’s a rough ROI calculation.

Gaming Laptop / RigGaming Laptop / Rig PriceGeForce Now Price
Asus ROG Zephyrus G14$1,804.43
(seen on Amazon.sg)
$19.99 / month.

If $1,804.43 is used to subscribe to GeForce Now,
you can get 90 months long subscription ($1,804.43 / $19.99).
90 months = 7.5 years.

Will your ROG able to keep up for 7.5 years and still play AAA titles by that time?
Razer Blade 14
with AMD Ryzen 5900HX
S$2,949.00
(seen on Razer.com)
$19.99 / month.

If $2,949.00 is used to subscribe to GeForce Now,
you can get 147 months long subscription ($2,949 / $19.99).
147 months = 12.2 years.

Will your Razer Blade able to keep up for 12.2 years and still play AAA titles by that time?

The price stated above is correct as of when this article is written. If you see my rough ROI calculation, it seems cloud gaming is the future (in this case GeForce Now). Not only you don’t need to pay large sum at one go, but also you get longer life-time for your money and at the same time always able to play any supported AAA game titles without worrying to upgrade your rig / laptop.

For your consideration, the ROI calculation, however, does not include the Internet cost and the lags that may happen when gaming using GeForce Now.

What do you think?

If you happen to read this article before 8th September 2021, I would highly recommend you to try the GeForce Now FREE trial, so that you test and try the cloud gaming service to see if it fits perfectly for you.
