This tip avoiding people from adding you into their WhatsApp group works for both known and unknown contacts.
Are you getting annoyed by people within your known contacts or even total stranger who – without any context nor explanation – added you into their WhatsApp group? While you can eventually quit the group if turned out the group is just another time waster, but what if you can prevent yourself from getting added into their WhatsApp group in the first place? Turn out, there’s such option inside WhatsApp and with this article, I would like to share this with the rest of you, so you won’t get annoyed anymore getting randomly added into WhatsApp group.
- This article shares the tip on how you can stop people from adding you into their WhatsApp group without your consent.

Here’s how to block people from adding you into their WhatsApp group.
So these are the steps you can do to ensure when someone adds you into their WhatsApp group, you’ll get notified and with your full consent and your acceptance (if you choose to join the WhatsApp group), only then you’ll be added into the WhatsApp group.
1) Ensure you are running the latest WhatsApp. Check out to your Apple App Store or Google Play Store for updates.
2) On your smartphone, open your WhatsApp.
3) Inside WhatsApp, go to Settings, then tap Account > Privacy > Groups.
4) Select from one of these 2: “My Contacts” or “My Contacts Except”.
Select “My Contacts” only if you don’t want total stranger to randomly add you into their group.
Select “My Contacts Except”, then tap “Select All” to include all your (annoying) contacts (except perhaps your spouse / sibling(s) / kids / parents) so they can’t add you into their WhatsApp group without you approving the request, then tap “Done”.
So once you have set to either “My Contacts” or “My Contacts Except”, the next time someone tries adding you into their WhatsApp group, they won’t be able to. Instead, they need to send a private invitation to you to join into their WhatsApp group and only when you choose to join, only then you’ll get added into their WhatsApp group.
I would highly recommend you to set the Group Setting as “My Contacts Except” and exclude everyone except your very important contacts to give you the best group privacy setting.
Bring it all together
