What happen to Samsung Galaxy Note 6? Is Samsung Galaxy Note 6 exist?

You’ve seen Samsung Galaxy Note 9, you’ve also seen Samsung Galaxy Note 8, you may or may not seen Samsung Galaxy Note 7 but you must have heard when Samsung Galaxy Note 7 become a big news – where its battery was found faulty and can cause fire and explosion. Then prior to it, if you Google around, you can only find Samsung Galaxy Note 5 and any Samsung Galaxy Note before it, but you won’t be able to find Samsung Galaxy Note 6.

What happen to Samsung Galaxy Note 6?

Is it a fail product as well like Samsung Galaxy Note 7?

Short answer: Samsung Galaxy Note 6 was never exist!

Fun fact: The ill-fated Samsung Galaxy Note 7 is actually the Samsung Galaxy Note 6 – if Samsung didn’t skip the numbering.

When talking about Samsung Galaxy Note families and hierarchies, it was all started back on 2011.

Year 2011:

On first half of 2011, Samsung introduced its flagship smartphone: back then it was Samsung Galaxy S2.

Then with ideas around big screen and pen to write, on second half of 2011, Samsung introduced the original Samsung Galaxy Note aka Samsung Galaxy Note 1 to the world. That’s where “phablet” term was born which literally short for phone and tablet. In terms of design, Samsung Galaxy Note followed closely Samsung Galaxy S2 squarish design and form-factor.

Year 2012:

On first half of 2012, Samsung  introduced its flagship smartphone: Samsung Galaxy S3.

On second half of 2012, Samsung introduced its Note series smartphone: Samsung Galaxy Note 2. Design-wise, Samsung Galaxy Note 2 followed closely Samsung Galaxy S3 rounded design and form-factor.

Year 2013: the cycle continues.

On first half of 2013, Samsung  introduced its flagship smartphone: Samsung Galaxy S4.

On second half of 2013, Samsung introduced its Note series smartphone: Samsung Galaxy Note 3. Design-wise, Samsung Galaxy Note 3 followed closely Samsung Galaxy S4 design and form-factor.

Year 2014: the cycle still continues.

On first half of 2014, Samsung  introduced its flagship smartphone: Samsung Galaxy S5.

On second half of 2014, Samsung introduced its Note series smartphone: Samsung Galaxy Note 4 and Samsung Galaxy Note Edge. Design-wise, both Samsung Galaxy Note 4 and Samsung Galaxy Note Edge followed closely Samsung Galaxy S5 design and form-factor, with the exception Samsung Galaxy Note Edge had at curved screen – the first time Samsung introduced and sold curved screen to the public.

Year 2015: the cycle still continues, but about to end.

On first half of 2015, Samsung  introduced its flagship smartphone: Samsung Galaxy S6 with dual curved screen on both left and right side of its screen.

On second half of 2015, Samsung introduced its Note series smartphone: Samsung Galaxy Note 5. Design-wise, unlike previous iteration, this time Samsung Galaxy Note 5 form-factor was pretty much similar to Samsung Galaxy S6, however Samsung didn’t employ dual curved screen to Samsung Galaxy Note 5 for whatever reason back then.

Samsung Galaxy Note 6 – the missing family member.

Between 2015 to 2016, Samsung realized that between its flagship Galaxy S series and its Galaxy Note series, there were confusion among customers – especially for non-geek ones about the series numbering. Casual customers on average thought that Samsung Galaxy Note 5 was last year model when they knew that Samsung Galaxy S6 existed – though Samsung Galaxy Note 5 was actually introduced later that year on second half of 2015 after to Samsung introduced Galaxy S6 on the first half of 2015 – all thanks to the confusing numbering.

That’s when Samsung finally decided to sync-up the number between its two flagship phones – the Galaxy S series and the Galaxy Note series.

Year 2016: break the cycle!

On first half of 2016, Samsung  introduced its flagship smartphone: Samsung Galaxy S7 with dual curved screen on both left and right side of its screen.

On second half of 2016, before Apple hit the market with its flagship iPhone, Samsung rushing the development of its Note series with bigger & better battery capacity, then introduced and brought to the market before Apple came out with its new iPhone – there goes Samsung Galaxy Note 7 – the first ever Galaxy Note series which numbering is synced up with its Galaxy S sibling.

Well, as it turned out, rushing development without doing much test did pretty much great damage to Samsung – plenty of Samsung Galaxy Note 7 caught on fire and in the end issued a global recalled and stop producing Samsung Galaxy Note 7 altogether. Read the news here.

So the reason why you never find and see Samsung Galaxy Note 6 physically is because the decision Samsung made between 2015 to 2016 to skip number 6 on Galaxy Note series and to sync-up with Galaxy S series numbering to end confusion among customers. Well, what a history!
