Apple bring good news to all of us – gamers – with the release of iOS 16 and iPadOS 16. After omitting it for so long, finally Apple brought in support for Nintendo hybrid console controllers – Nintendo Switch Joy-Con and Nintendo Switch Pro Controller. Check out the steps in detail below.

Here’s how to connect and use Nintendo Switch controller on your iPhone and iPad

These are how you can connect and use your Nintendo Switch Joy-Con and/or Pro Controller on your iPhone and iPad.

Step 1) Ensure you are running at least iOS 16 or iPadOS 16.

To check whether you are running at least iOS 16 or iPadOS 16, do the following steps:

You need to be at least running iOS 16 or iPadOS 16 to use Nintendo Switch Joy-Con and Pro Controller.

a) Go to Settings > General > About.
b) Inside About screen, find “Software Version”.

If it’s written at least 16.0, then you are good to go. Otherwise, refer to this guide here to update yours to iOS 16 or iPadOS 16: Updating your iPhone to iOS 16 and iPad to iPadOS 16 today ahead of everyone – JILAXZONE.

Step 2) Set Nintendo Switch controller in pairing mode

Now it’s time to pair the Nintendo Switch controller – be it Joy-Con or Pro Controller – to your iPhone.

Press and hold the Pair button on the Joy-Con to enable it in Pairing mode.

a) Press and hold the Pair button on the Nintendo Switch Joy-Con or Pro Controller.

If you are using Nintendo Switch Joy-Con:
On each Joy-Con, between SR and SL button, there’s a small button – the pair button. Click and hold the button, until you see the LED light next to the pair button on the Joy-Con starts blinking.

If you are using Nintendo Switch Pro Controller:
On the top portion of the Pro Controller, next to the charging port, there’ a small button – the pair button. Click and hold the button, until you see the LED light at the bottom of the Pro Controller starts blinking.

b) Once the LED light starts blinking, go to the next steps.

Step 3) Turn on Bluetooth on your iPhone

With Nintendo Switch controller in pairing mode, now turn on Bluetooth on your iPhone and pair the Nintendo Switch controller. Do the following steps:

Turn ON Bluetooth on your iPhone

a) On your iPhone, go to Settings > Bluetooth.
b) Turn On Bluetooth.
c) Find either “Joy-Con (L)” or “Joy-Con (R)” or “Pro Controller” depending on which Nintendo Switch controller you are pairing with your iPhone.
d) Tap on either “Joy-Con (L)” or “Joy-Con (R)” or “Pro Controller” to pairing it with your iPhone.

Once pairing is successful, you’ll see on your iPhone Bluetooth screen, the status of the controller will turn into “Connected” and the controller LED will stop blinking.

Step 4) Start playing the game!
