We have iOS 26 and iPadOS 26 today – right now!
WWDC 2025 has happened back on Mon 9-June-2025. As usual with every WWDC event, Apple announced and introduced, nope, it’s not iOS 19 and iPadOS 19, but rather iOS 26 and iPadOS 26. Yes, Apple has finally decided to give their OSes a one unifying standard version on as part of their naming, taken from today year+1, which is 2026, therefore it becomes iOS 26 and iPadOS 26 (and visionOS 26, watchOS 26, tvOS 26 and macOS 26).
Wait, so then what happen to iOS 19 and iPadOS 19?
Well, since Apple decided to make it simpler in naming their OSes by using a unifying version across all the platforms, so, sorry, there won’t be any iOS 19 and iPadOS 19.

So, without further ado, here are the full list of iPhone and iPad getting the iOS 26 and iPadOS 26.
These are full list of iOS 26 and iPadOS 26 compatible devices.

Notable New Features available on iOS 26 and iPadOS 26
These are notable new features announced by Apple during WWDC 25 based on their importance (at least to me).
1) Fresh New Look!

Apple called it Liquid Glass as it’s where the inspiration came from. Icons now have the “glass” look and feel. You can set them as “clear” glass look as well.

2) Dynamic Navigation and Control

Following Dynamic Island design which is dynamic – following which apps are active, now navigation and controls are also made dynamic, making the entire OS to look more simple and less cluttered.
3) Next Level Multitasking

You can open more windows at once, you can resize and arrange them how you like them to be, you can now split the screen into thirds or even quarters, and even now there’s a macOS like minimize, maximize and close button on the apps.
4) Folders in the Dock

Regardless you are a macOS user/not, you’ll love this feature – now you can access any documents, downloaded files directly from the dock.
5) New Lock Screen

The clock on the lock screen now changes according to your wallpaper and/or according to your notifications.
6) Polls in Messages

Now you can create polling within the Messages app itself, making it easier for you to craft something that requires multiple persons to gather a decision.
7) Games app

Previous iOS and iPadOS introduced a focused Game Mode, this time, Apple took it further. You can now download the game directly from Games app. Games app is replacing the outdated Game Center app.
And many other new features…

What do you think on Apple new naming convention on their OSes, especially iOS 26 and iPadOS 26?
I personally think it’s a good way to make things simpler – since I, myself, like simple things. However, the move to rename the OSes to their release year reminds me on how Samsung today name their flagship devices, such as Samsung Galaxy S25 – which is coming out at Year 2025.
Is Apple inspired by Samsung on naming their OSes? Let me know your thoughts on the comment below.
