The same method is used on Tablets and any gadgets that is using Lithium-Ion batteries: Any android phones & tablets, iPhone, iPad and many thing else.
Most modern smartphone – if not all – has 500 battery charge cycle before the battery capacity is reduced to 80% or even further. What happen when 500 charge cycle has been reached? While replacing the battery is the recommended way, but you can still continue using the battery inside the smartphone, however do expect shorter life time.
Talking about battery charge cycle, I bet most of us are clueless about how this battery charge cycle is counted, and whether or not doing certain steps as typically instructed on the internet are actually helping to preserve the battery cycle count.
On this article, I’m going to share with you with examples so it’s easier to understand, on how battery charge cycle is counted. Don’t worry, this is not based on my own theory but rather from trusted sources – link shall be given below.
Battery: Here’s how one charge cycle is counted
One charge cycle is counted whenever an amount equivalent to 100% of your battery capacity has been used.
Did you get it? If not, fret not. Have a look at the scenarios below to better understand the statement given above.
a) You charged your phone to 100%.
b) Then you used your phone till 0%. Means you have used 100% of your battery capacity. This is counted as 1 charge cycle.
a) You charged your phone to 100%.
b) Then you used your phone till 25%. Means you have used 75% of your battery capacity.
c) Then from 25%, you charged your phone till 75%.
d) When you used your phone from 75% till 50%, you spent another 25%, and combined with the battery spent on step b), you have used 100% of your battery capacity, this is counted as 1 charge cycle.
a) You charged your phone to 80% of battery capacity.
b) Then from 80% battery capacity, you used your phone till 20%. Means you have used 60% of your battery capacity.
c) Then from 20%, you charged your phone till 50% battery capacity.
d) Then from 50% battery capacity, you used your phone till 20% (again). Means you have used another 30% of your battery capacity – and that means you have used 90% in total of your battery capacity (60% + 30%).
e) Then from 20%, you charged your phone till 100% battery capacity.
f) Then from 100% battery capacity, when you used your phone till 90%, the 10% battery capacity used will add up to 100% in total of your battery capacity used (60% + 30% + 10%). This is counted as 1 charge cycle.
Bring it all together
So from the explanation above and the 3 scenarios, now you should have better understanding how Lithium-Ion based battery charge cycle is counted.
