Apart from the new white color Joy-Con and Dock, Nintendo Switch OLED model has bigger 7 inch screen. Can the existing Joy-Con & Nintendo Switch accessories be used on the new Nintendo Switch OLED model and vice versa – new Joy-Con be used on old Nintendo Switch models?
Simple answer: Yes, they are both interchange-able.
Now come to the question: “Can the existing Joy-Con & Nintendo Switch accessories be used on the new Nintendo Switch OLED model and vice versa?”, the simple answer: Yes, they are both interchange-able. The existing Joy-Con and accessories can be used on the new Nintendo Switch OLED model and so do new Joy-Cons can be used on any existing Nintendo Switch models.
Here’s the proof:
1) Same width and height.
Although Nintendo Switch OLED model is longer than Nintendo Switch (1st Gen and 2nd Gen) – because it employs wider 7 inch screen, but Nintendo Switch OLED model has the same width & height (width is 0.55″, while height is 0.4″) as the existing Nintendo Switch (1st Gen and 2nd Gen) and therefore, both old and new Joy-Con will fit comfortably on any Nintendo Switch models (except Nintendo Switch Lite).
2) Same accessories.
Check out the official Nintendo Switch OLED model announcement trailer above, you can see the Joy-Con is played with Ring-Con on Ring Fit Adventure and so far, there’s no announcement from Nintendo on Ring Fit Adventure game with Ring-Con specific for Nintendo Switch OLED model.
3) No references on new Joy-Con model.
On Nintendo Switch OLED model page, Nintendo never mention any references to new Joy-Con that only compatible with the new Nintendo Switch OLED model.
4) Confirmed there’s no new Joy-Con model.
Furthermore, on Nintendo Switch Joy-Con page, there’s no splitting / separation between old / new Joy-Con. If you don’t believe me, check it out here: DIY Joy-Con at Nintendo.
Bring it all together
