WhatsApp is Draining Your Battery. A lot! Turn Off This Feature to Save Your Battery.
This is applicable for WhatsApp both on Android and iOS.
WhatsApp has Convenient Feature That Everyone is Using And It’s Draining Fast Phone Battery at the Same Time
One of the WhatsApp features that makes us convenient of using the messaging service is that its ability to be accessible on desktop computer and/or any devices with browser access to internet. The feature called WhatsApp Web (or WhatsApp Desktop). WhatsApp Web accessible on the following URL: http://web.whatsapp.com/.
Turned out, it’s also the feature that makes WhatsApp is considered as #1 battery drainer.
Happen to me and my iPhone 7+. Though the phone is almost 2 years now, but I am considering myself as a light smartphone users – yes I play games and I browse the web and read Flipboard (@jilaxzone) using the phone but not that much, on weekdays from 9am to 6.30pm – except during lunch hour, I rarely touch my phone except to reply to messages. But how come my phone battery life was so bad. Before I knew this and do this trick, around 6.30pm weekdays, my phone battery life was normally shown at around 20% or less. I was about to blame Apple for the reason but then I found the fact that it’s not the phone, it’s the WhatsApp app that drains my battery. A lot. If you are using its web mode or desktop app.

WhatsApp: Turn It Off and You Save A lot of Battery.
WhatsApp Web or Desktop, like it or not, is a very convenient feature where you can switch between your computer and your phone real time. But that’s the thing, to get that convenience, you have to allow your phone to be always connected to WhatsApp Web (or Desktop), not sure what method WhatsApp is using but for sure it’s draining phone battery a lot.
So the rule of thumb is, connect only when needed. If you are no longer using, disconnect from it.
Closing the browser window only to close the WhatsApp Web is not enough, closing the WhatsApp Desktop app is also not enough, because what you just do is just closing one part. To really disconnect, you need to do it on your phone on the WhatsApp app itself.
Here’s how to turn off WhatsApp Web and Desktop from your phone:
1) Open WhatsApp app, go to Settings.
2) Then find WhatsApp Web/Desktop and tap on it.
3) Tap Log out from all computers.
You are done. You just save yourself and your phone battery!
I have tried for few days, now at the end of the day 10pm, I still got 40% of my battery, unlike before I did this, 6.30pm and my phone battery was 20% or less.
Don’t wait! Disconnect from it now if you are currently not using it. And let me know on the comment section down below if you see/don’t see any improvement on your phone battery after you disconnect your phone from WhatsApp Web/Desktop.
Have a great day everyone!

I have 7+ also and lately find that my battery is draining faster than usual. I don’t have WhatsApp web or desktop but i do have tons of messages and videos on WhatsApp. Could treat be the reason? Thanks for your help!
Hi Nat,
If you are using iOS 12, try to go to Settings > Battery and (wait for the loading to complete) see which app drains your battery the most.
I don’t think tons of messages and videos contribute to the battery draining. Well, if you use WhatsApp extensively compared to other apps, then it could be the reason as well but that’s expected.
This message is coming up on my phone when I get a whatsapp call….limited battery usage has been enabled for whatsapp. This might unexpectedly end your call. Therefore during the whatsapp call it just disconnect. What can I do to fix this problem
Hi Sylvia,
Try to turn off Low Power Mode on your phone. That should fix the issue.
Great article,
Great article, very insightfull – I will give it a try.
I recently bought a smartwatch and also experienced really poor battery performance.
As I looked up the apps, which use the battery most – WhatsApp was No. 1.
This article literaly confirms my guess – as I was using WhatsApp Web quite heavy on the watch.
Yes, consider logging it out when you don’t use it, it will save your battery a lot!
Thank you for this brilliant information. I have been struggling with the battery life of my iPhone for weeks now. I could see it was Whatsapp using the most battery life. Everything I googled and tried did not help. When I now used your advice and checked web/desktop I saw that I connected to my iPad on the 13th of June and did not disconnect. I have now logged out of all devices and hope to see a difference.
Hi Elsie,
Glad it could help you!
