Welcome August 2018!
This month is Singapore National Day month, however it’s unlike last year where all the Bike Sharing Providers are popping up anywhere and are giving out promotions such as FREE rides, this year it seems the other way around – one by one they are vanishing and for those left, they are not offering such promotion anymore.
As you probably knew, oBike is quitting Singapore. If you previously deposited money on them, do check on their official Facebook page, on the refund process but this is the statement they were giving on July last month, “oBike is also working closely with relevant parties on a solution to refund the user deposits. The entire refund process will be announced once these details are finalised”. Which they didn’t indicate when it’s going to be finalised.
While waiting for Obike to come out with the official refund process, here’s what you can do to quickly request a refund from oBike: check here.
Another shocking news is that there’s another Bike Sharing providing which ceased its operation in Singapore. Read below.
So here we are. In August 2018, pricing structures are mostly the same like they were back in July 2018.
Here are their offers for August 2018:
Anywheel
Like last months, unfortunately in August 2018, Anywheel price is still showing price in CNY although I’m physically here in Singapore.
According to the app, deposit is CNY 99, while the charge is CNY 0.5/30 min/trip.
Grab Cycle
One of the impact Obike is quitting Singapore is that Grab Cycle – which happen to be partnering with Obike to able to use Obike fleets of bikes – stop accepting new members for the time being. If you already registered before, then you can continue and renew, otherwise you are unable to register as new – at least for the time being.
On top of pay-as-you-go for $0.50/30 min, here are their prices for August 2018. They remain the same like it was for July 2018.
Grab Cycle | Price Per Day |
7 days $1.00 | $0.1428 |
30 days $3.00 | $0.1 |
Grab Cycle pay-as-you-go plan requires $5 deposit with minimum balance of $5.
G-Bike
Another shocking news is G-Bike – one of local bike sharing providers which also follows oBike path – ceasing its services last 7th July 2018. Read the details here on StraitTimes.com. No wording on their official Facebook page though.
Good bye G-Bike. We barely know you.
Ofo Bike
This month, Ofo Bike comes with a new offers. They call it Group Pass. It’s a pass where you need to buy more than one to get discount.
On top of pay-as-you-go for $0.50/30 min, here are their prices for August 2018.
Ofo Bike | Price Per Day |
7 days $1.59 | $0.227 |
30 days $6.99 | $0.233 |
30 days Group Pass* $5.99 | $0.199 |
*Group Pass has minimum requirement to purchase pass for at least 2 persons.
Obike
In case you don’t know yet, oBike is ceasing its operation in Singapore. Read here. If you have deposit with them and unable to process refund, use the following method describe here to request a refund.
Since the ceasing news last week, oBike has blocked users access to its oBike app. So no more price comparisons for oBike.
Mobike
Overall, Mobike prices for August 2018 mostly remain the same like it was on July 2018, except 2:
1) Now Mobike is offering 180 days pass – though it seems there glitch on the price – it’s more expensive than the 360 days pass
2) The 360 days pass price went down from $89.99 become lucky number $88.88.
On top of pay-as-you-go for $0.50/30 min, here are their prices for August 2018.
Mobike | Price Per Day |
30 days $7.99 | $0.267 |
90 days $29.99 | $0.340 |
180 days $223.23 | $1.240 |
360 days $88.88 | $0.250 |
SG Bike
On top of pay-as-you-go for $1/30 min, here are their prices for August 2018.
SG Bike | Price Per Day |
30 days $5 | $0.167 |
90 days $10 | $0.111 |
180 days $30 | $0.167 |
And the cheapest goes to…
Well, for short term (7-30 days), Grab Cycle is the winner. Though you have to take note, at this point of time Grab Cycle can only use Anywheel bicycles, since there’s no more oBike. As an alternative, do consider Ofo Bike, especially if you plan to buy in groups.
For medium (60-90 days), in terms of price SG Bike is the winner, however do note that SG Bike bicycles at this point of time are quite limited in numbers and locations, so do consider before committing. As alternative, do consider offer from Mobike on this range.
For the long term (180 days and above), SG Bike is the winner, however like I mentioned above, SG Bike bicycles are limited and only available on certain locations only, do consider Mobike if you require the bikes to be available islandwide.
My Recommendation:
Like my recommendation I gave last month, each months, Bike Sharing providers will surely try to come out with even greater promotions to win the crowds. And while it seems now the Bike Sharing market is already saturated with so many providers, but who knows if next months, there’s a new Bike Sharing provider coming to Singapore with FREE-to-ride promotion. Knowing that fact, my recommendation to you is to get only the 1 month pass from Grab Cycle or Ofo. While it’s relatively cheap at $0.1/day (Grab Cycle) or $0.233/day (Ofo Bike), at the same time you don’t need to commit for so long. When next month the new pricing is coming out, you can switch to one with better offer.
To use Bike Sharing in Singapore
You have to first install the app to enjoy the promotion. In case you haven’t installed any of the app, do first install the app. Links provided below.
Once you installed, find the bike and open the app. Scan the QR Code found on the bike to begin rent your bike.
