DIY AirPods – For a Good Sound, Wireless and AirPods-Looking
Difficulty: Moderate, requires soldering
Do this if you want not only good sound and wireless but also a good look, like an actual AirPods.
What you will get:
- AirPods looks
- A good sound wireless headset/earpiece
What you won’t get:
- The actual AirPods 🙂
What you need:
- Apple EarPods or other good wired headset/earpiece
- Fake Apple AirPods / Chinese Apple AirPods or if you want AirPods Pro, use the Fake AirPods Pro
- Tweezer
- Spudger
In case you can’t see Amazon link above, you can check it out here: Fake AirPods.
Here’s how to DIY the AirPods
1) Carefully break open the fake Apple AirPods, disconnect the speaker module from the board – use the help of spudger and tweezer if needed.
2) Carefully break open the Apple EarPods, disconnect the speaker module from the board – use the help of spudger and tweezer if needed.
3) Now put the speaker module from Apple EarPods to the fake AirPods and solder the connectors correctly.
4) Once soldered, turn on the fake AirPods to test the audio to see if you can hear something. If nothing can be heard, turn off the fake AirPods and redo step 3.
5) Now merge back the speaker portion with the fake AirPods body.
6) If you haven’t done this, pair with your iPhone/Android.
7) Start listening.
Don’t worry, unlike tearing down the actual AirPods (link here) – which proven to be nightmare according to iFixit folks who gave AirPods repairability score 0 out of 10 (10 is easier to repair), breaking open the fake Apple AirPods is much easier – I did it myself.

Now you have a pretty close to an actual AirPods!
What are you waiting for? It’s DIY time!
Now it’s time to put some creativity of yours!
While the DIY AirPods may never be the same like the actual AirPods, but it will be close enough and satisfy your cravings for AirPods.
