Tried changing your iPhone Date and Time, but getting “The time zone can not be set manually due to device restrictions” message? That’s because you have Screen Time turned on. Moreover, not just because Screen Time is turned on in your device, but also due to passcode is setup on Screen Time.

Now what is Screen Time?

Introduced since iOS 12 back in 2018, Screen Time give apps and games time limit on how long they can be accessed within a day. Screen Time also provides full device sort of lock down – with Downtime – where you can set-up when the lock down shall start during the day. Once the lock down is started, all apps and games are locked with a Passcode – if Passcode is turned on. To able to access apps or games after locked down (Downtime), one need to key in the passcode.

Why your iPhone has Screen Time with Passcode turned on ?

If you are adults, likely you set Screen Time as part of your initial device setup when you try out the iPhone features and/or when you need to limit yourself not to always hook up with the iPhone. And especially if you are adults with kids, perhaps you set Screen Time together with Passcode to limit your kids playtime with the device.

If you are a kid reading this article, that’s because your parents/guardian(s), set a time limit on your device when accessing certain apps, so that you won’t always stuck with the device the whole day – playing games or watching movies/videos.

Here’s how to enable you to change Date & Time on iPhone Settings

Now here’s how you can fix the “The time zone can not be set manually due to device restrictions” issue in your iPhone Date & Time settings.

Step 1) On your iPhone, go to Settings > Screen Time.

Step 2) Inside Screen Time, tap on “Change Screen Time Passcode” and then select “Turn Off Screen Time Passcode”.

Step 3) When prompted to key in the Passcode, do key in your Screen Time Passcode. If you keyed in the Passcode correctly, now you should see that the Screen Time Passcode has been disabled, the menu has changed from “Change Screen Time Passcode” into “Use Screen Time Passcode”.

Step 4) Now go to Settings > General > Date & Time.

Now you should be able to change the Date & Time.
